Judy Bady, a native of Benton Harbor, MI, is a

vocalist, actress, writer and instructor who has won

multiple, consecutive DOWN BEAT® music awards and has

performed and/or recorded with Gary Bartz, Hamiet

Bluiett; Tom Burns; George Cables; Doug Carn; Andrew

Cyrille; Jon Faddis; Billy Harper; Billy Hart; Jon

Hendricks; John Hicks; Oliver Lake; Bill Lee; Barney

McCall; Bobby McFerrin; Rene McLean; Diane Moser;

Misha Piatigorsky; Badal Roy; Hilton Ruiz; Paul

Serrato, Aaron Scott, Francesca Tanksley, Reggie

Workman, and Piotr Wojtasik among others.  She has

also performed as a leader in Moscow, Russia and

Szczecin, Poland.

Judy recorded and released her debut CD as a leader in

November 2003 entitled “Blackbird,” (which was

produced by Misha Piatigorsky, www.mishamusic.com, who

was also instrumental in arranging Judy’s tour in

Moscow, Russia in December 2003).  “Blackbird” has

entitled, “The Jazz Singers.”  The book profiles the

top 500 jazz vocalists of all time, will be published

by Backbeat Books in 2005, will be nationally

distributed and will be available in most bookstores

Judy’s producer, Misha Piatigorsky, entered his

composition, “Low Talk,” (on which Judy sang lead

vocals), in the 2004 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz

International Composers Competition sponsored by BMI

and was awarded the top prize.  Misha and Judy

performed “Low Talk” at the 2004 Thelonious Monk

Institute of Jazz International Jazz Vocals

Competition at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE)
